Why should you do an engagement shoot?

Why should you do an engagement shoot?

With all my wedding packages I try and encourage an engagement/pre wedding  shoot. This is just a one hour session outside where bride and groom get a chance to shoot with you and for us to get to know each other and have a laugh.  I have found that the couples I have done this with feel more comfortable with you, and you with them on the day of the wedding. The shoot gives you a chance to practice posing the couple and to show them what works and what looks awkward. It also gives you a chance to try things out, use different techniques, lighting. It also provides your websites with more body of works.

At every wedding which I have included the engagement shoot for I have been approached by guests and asked how long have I known the couple, and every tine they have been shocked as the bond and connection I seem to get with all my couples is one of a friends of years. I have noticed that a lot of the couples spend a lot the day with me outside of the pictures side of it. I always feel like a guest rather than photographer and many occasions been asked to stay and enjoy the night and I have been really tempted. But you have to remind yourself that your there as a professional and staying to dance the night away will take that professional aspect away.  So enjoy but don't cross the line. Remember that the bride and groom are your clients first friends second, and you are there to capture the little moments that make the day.
